Tobermory, Ontario—one of Canada’s most popular summer tourist destinations at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula—is officially getting a Tesla Supercharger.

A Long-Awaited Upgrade for Bruce Peninsula Road Trips
As anyone who has driven an EV up to Bruce Peninsula National Park or taken the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Manitoulin Island knows, fast charging in the area has been notoriously limited.
Currently, the closest Tesla Supercharger is located in Owen Sound, around 110 km south. That location is an older V2 charger capped at 150 kW, which cannot charge non-Tesla vehicles.
Tobermory does have a recently installed third-party DC Fast Charger, but options are severely constrained. That station maxes out at 120 kW and carries a heavy price tag of $0.65/kWh plus a $2.50 connection fee—a steep rate driven largely by the complete lack of local competition.
What to Expect on the Timeline
While winning the official community vote is great news for EV drivers in Ontario, it is worth keeping realistic timelines in mind. Historically, locations that win Tesla’s voting rounds can take anywhere from 1 to 2+ years to navigate site acquisition, utility connections, permitting, and construction. However, given Tobermory’s heavy seasonal traffic, hopefully Tesla prioritizes this site for a quicker opening.
